Story

Rob and I are training for an event with 25000spins, a non-profit program that matches an adventure with a good cause. We aim to raise valuable funds that go directly towards helping people in poverty.

The charity Rob and I have chosen to ride for is Watoto Australia.

The funds we raise will go towards creating access to clean drinking water in Watoto village schools. According to WaterAid, 8 million people in Uganda do not have access to safe drinking water. This lack of access is linked to the transmission of a number of diseases including cholera, diarrhoea, dysentery, hepatitis A, typhoid, and polio. Watoto has eight schools across three campuses in Uganda. At school, the water tap pumps water directly from underground. This water is not necessarily safe to drink and whilst some children are able to bring a bottle filled with boiled water to school, not all of the children who attend the schools have access to this.

Partnering with SolarWave in Uganda, Watoto aims to install eight water purifying drinking systems, with one in each school location, to provide all staff and students with clean and safe drinking water. Approved by the United Nations, SolarWave utilises solar power and chemical free water purification technologies in order to deactivate bacteria, virus and protozoa by up to 99.99%.

Thank you for your support as we spin our way to clean drinking water for Watoto children!

We invite you to partner with Watoto to give vulnerable children access to clean drinking water when they attend our schools in Uganda. Watoto Australia (ABN 83 176 101 461) is proud to be a partner with Global Development Group (ABN 57 102 400 993): an Australian NGO approved by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and responsible for aid and development project J210 according to OAGDS guidelines. If projects are overfunded, funds may be directed towards other approved project activities.
